Thirty-seven returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Cebu have received training to help them manage their money and prepare for small-business opportunities.
The participants attended the Financial Awareness Seminar-Small Business Management Training on August 7, 2026.
The program was conducted by the Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office VII as part of its reintegration support for Filipinos who have returned from overseas employment.
From overseas income to long-term savings
The seminar taught participants how to handle their finances after returning to the Philippines.
Topics included financial management, saving, and investing.
These lessons can help returning workers decide how to use the money they earned abroad.
They may also help families avoid spending all their savings before finding another job or source of income.
For many returning OFWs, the move back home can bring financial changes.
Regular overseas income may stop, while daily household costs continue.
Learning how to prepare a budget and set clear financial goals can help workers adjust to this new situation.
Business lessons focused on practical decisions
The training also covered practical ways to manage a small business.
Participants learned about basic business operations and how to make better financial decisions as future entrepreneurs.
Starting a business can give returning workers another income option.
However, a business also requires planning, record-keeping, and careful use of capital.
The seminar aimed to give the participants a better understanding of these responsibilities before they invest their savings.
The Department of Migrant Workers said the activity was designed to provide practical knowledge that participants can use in handling their finances and running a business.
Reintegration involves more than coming home
Returning from overseas work can require major adjustments.
Some OFWs may plan to retire, remain with their families, seek local employment, or build a livelihood in their home province.
Financial and business training can support that transition by helping them prepare for income changes and assess possible livelihood plans.
The Cebu activity shows how government reintegration services can connect returning workers with skills that may be useful after migration.
What returning workers should know
The announced session covered the 37 OFWs who joined the Cebu training.
The Department of Migrant Workers has not stated in the release when the next Cebu batch will be held.
Other returning OFWs who want similar support should monitor announcements from the Department of Migrant Workers and its regional offices.
They may also ask their nearest migrant workers office about available financial education, livelihood, and reintegration programs.
