Expatriate residents in Saudi Arabia can check their Iqama expiry date online through the government’s Absher platform.
The service can show whether a Resident ID, commonly called an Iqama, is active or expired.
This check is useful for workers, dependents, and other foreign residents who need to monitor their legal residency status.
Iqama inquiry takes only a few details
Residents may open the Public Query Resident ID Expiry service on the official Absher website.
Enter the required information, including the Iqama number and verification code shown on the page.
Submit the inquiry to view the Resident ID’s current status and expiration details.
Residents should carefully check the Iqama number before submitting the form.
A wrong number may return an error or information for a different record.
Checking is different from renewing
The public inquiry only allows a resident to view the Iqama’s status.
It does not automatically renew an expired or expiring card.
For private-sector employees, the employer normally completes the Iqama renewal process.
A family sponsor may renew the Resident ID of an eligible dependent, while an individual employer may renew the Iqama of a registered domestic worker.
Saudi Arabia’s National Platform confirms that eligible sponsors can renew a family member’s or domestic worker’s Resident ID through Absher.
Renewal may depend on requirements such as fee payments, medical insurance, passport validity, and the absence of unresolved violations.
The exact requirements can differ according to the resident’s category.
An expired Iqama can affect other services
Residents should not wait until they need to travel or complete another government transaction before checking their Iqama.
An expired or nearly expired Resident ID may affect visa processing and other residency services.
For example, Saudi passport authorities have issued specific Iqama-validity rules for final exit visas.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, an Iqama with fewer than 30 days remaining generally needs to be renewed before a final exit visa can be issued.
Different final-exit validity periods apply when 30 to 60 days remain.
What residents should do now
Check your Iqama status regularly through the official Absher website or application.
If the expiry date is close, contact your employer or sponsor and ask when the renewal will be completed.
Keep screenshots or transaction records for reference, but do not share your Iqama number, Absher password, or verification codes with unknown people.
