A domestic helper in Saudi Arabia who has been reported as absent from work (also known as absconding) may still have options to fix their status.
The process depends on when the absence report was filed, whether the worker is still within a correction period, and whether they qualify to transfer to a new employer.
Saudi Arabia now handles many domestic worker cases through the Musaned platform, while some absence-report procedures are also linked to Absher.

What Does Huroob Mean for a Domestic Worker?
“Huroob” is the common term used for a worker who has been reported as absent from work / leaving their job without permission.
For domestic workers, Saudi authorities now use procedures related to absence from work or work stoppage.
Once the worker reaches an irregular status, they may face problems with their Iqama, employment transfer, or legal stay in Saudi Arabia.
This is why the worker should act as early as possible.
First Check: Was the Absence Report Filed Recently?
If an employer filed an absence report, the employer may have a limited period to withdraw it.
Official Saudi guidance says an absence report may be withdrawn within 15 days of filing.
Absher also states that the report cannot be canceled online. The employer must visit the Expatriate Affairs Department within that period.
So, if the report is less than 15 days old and the employer agrees to help, this may be the simplest way to fix the problem.
If the Worker Has Been in Saudi Arabia Less Than 2 Years
Under the new 2026 Work Stoppage Service, the rules depend on how long the domestic worker has been in the Kingdom.
If the employment contract is ended because of work stoppage within the worker’s first two years in Saudi Arabia, the worker must generally leave the Kingdom within 60 days.
If the worker does not leave within that period, they may be treated as violating Saudi residency and labor rules.
In this situation, a normal employer transfer may not always be available.
The worker should check their exact Musaned status before making any decision.
If the Worker Has Been in Saudi Arabia More Than 2 Years
There may be more options for workers who have already spent more than two years in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, a worker whose contract is ended because of work stoppage after two years may have 60 days to either:
- leave Saudi Arabia permanently, or
- transfer to a new employer.
If the worker does not fix the status within this period, they may be classified as absent from work and in violation of Saudi rules.
For domestic workers, the transfer process is handled through Musaned.
Older Huroob Cases May Follow Different Rules
Saudi Arabia previously opened a correction program for domestic workers who had already been reported absent or whose residency had expired.
The program allowed eligible workers to correct their status by transferring to a new employer through Musaned.
However, the Ministry made an important distinction.
That correction program applied to workers who were already in irregular status before the program’s qualifying date. It did not automatically cover workers who became absent after the announcement.
This means a domestic helper should not assume that an old “huroob amnesty” process still applies to every case.
What the Domestic Helper Should Do First
The safest first step is to check the worker’s current record in Musaned and confirm:
- whether the status says absent from work or work stoppage;
- the date the status was recorded;
- whether a transfer option is available;
- whether a final exit visa has already been issued; and
- whether the worker is still within a 15-day or 60-day period.
If the worker cannot see a clear option online, they should contact Musaned directly.
The Ministry lists 920002866 as the Musaned support number, and complaints may also be filed through the Musaned platform or app.
Important: Do Not Pay Unofficial Fixers
Workers should avoid agents or middlemen who promise to “remove huroob” for cash.
The Ministry has warned against unregulated intermediaries in the domestic worker sector.
Status correction and transfer procedures should be completed through official Saudi government systems, especially Musaned.
